Details of an Urban Garden
I live in the desert right? I even love living in the desert. We have incredible vistas of the high Sierra Nevada Mountains, unique geology, and access to huge valleys that you can see from one side to the other without any disruption from humanity. All these things I love about the desert.
I have lived in the city also, coastal cities mostly and I still enjoy visiting friends I have in these locations. Last weekend I was in Long Beach, CA visiting friends who are garden people professionally and personally. They love plants and they also love discovering new ways to create beautiful landscapes that are sustainable and living works of art. Their own personal gardens were the subject of my latest photo shoot.
I am a photographer who loves drilling down to capture details and stories, personal stories that capture humanities presence here without capturing people. How we define our own spaces are interesting and unique and personal. Public gardens can have beautiful florals, trees, etc. placed in balanced and perfect compositions, however they are impersonal. I love the personal details that people add to their spaces, things that make them happy and give their space no matter the size a sense of beauty, rhythm, and interest.
So these images here and the ones on my website capture an indoor orchid collection and a tiny backyard space that feels spacious and alive because it is filled with detail. Everywhere you look is a feast for your senses.
The bottom line is even though I love the desert, green makes me happy and a visit to a location like this feeds my soul and my creative mind. I hope these images help to feed you in someway as well.
